Slip Your Mouth Around The Slip's Tasty Burgers
Ever hear of a Peanut Butter Bacon Burger? Sound kind of weird, off the beaten path. That's what we thought too. The Slip, based in Kirkland is one of those unique joints that has a bit of idiosyncrasy and a notoriety unique burgers that keep the locals coming back for more.
Now if the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger is not your forte, don’t fret because they also have more conventional burgers too. Located near Marina Park, they have a large outdoor patio as well as a interior that can be only described as less than orderly. Random colored tables scattered along the inside coupled with a small bar area, your best bet is sitting on the patio to take in the sun on a nice summer day.
It is almost a kind of repository for burgers with enough choices to satisfy any person's hunger. They have Chicken burgers, Seafood Burgers, even Whole Earth burgers that are made with a vegetarian patties served with short grain rice and oats. All of their burgers are chuck patties, meaning that they make them fresh to order so don't expect the pre-packaged junk you can buy at Costco.
While burgers can only get so good, The Slip takes an extraordinary amount of care into serving up some really great food. One of us is a big fan of the Red Robin chicken burger but attested to the fact that the Nero could clearly beat it. The fries are also different from normal burger joints. They proudly display the fact that their fries are flame-roasted instead of deep fried. Almost tasting like the burned end of a pizza crust, they tend to be less greasy than their conventional brethren. The homemade ketchup is very good with a sweet tangy taste and most of their ingredients are made fresh.
The Slip Special is a baseline standard burger with a charbroiled with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, bacon and a vinaigrette dressing. The vinaigrette dressing gave the burger a zesty and tangy taste. That blast of tangy taste was a little much for us, but there's a lot of room to customize your burger. The Slip has add-ons available to create or modify your burger for own personal creation.
The Nero Chicken Burger was jammed packed with a plethora of ingredients. Aside from the Charbroiled Cajun Chicken, it came served with guacamole, cheese, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, black beans, corn and salsa. After naming that many items it's really hard to imagine all of that under a bun. After we actually got the burger, most of it ended up falling out with so many different ingredients stuffed in.
On the service aspect, burger places are usually just take-out or self service, but The Slip offers some friendly staff from hostess to the server that kept checking up on how we were doing. From the outside, you wouldn't expect this level of care in food and service, but who expects a Peanut Butter Bacon Burger either. If you're looking for a good burger on the Eastside, Slip is the sure bet destination.
